LG4A is a leaded gunmetal alloy renowned for its excellent machining properties, medium strength, and superior resistance to corrosion. It is widely used in marine environments and engineering applications, particularly for components such as pump and valve parts, as well as for bearings under light loads at low to medium speeds with adequate lubrication.

- Chemical composition (nominal): Tin (Sn) 6.0–8.0%, Lead (Pb) 2.5–3.5%, Zinc (Zn) 1.5–3.0%, Copper (Cu) balance, with minor allowable amounts of Nickel, Iron, Aluminium, Antimony, and total impurities (0.70% max).

- Ultimate Tensile Strength: 300 MPa (minimum)
- Elongation: 13% (minimum)
- Typical Hardness: 80 Brinell (BHN)

- Maximum Operating Temperature: 230°C (450°F)
- Stress Relieving Temperature: 260°C (500°F); 1 hour per 25 mm section thickness.
- Standards: Conforms to BS 1400-1985 alloy LG4; also listed as BS EN 1982 CuSn7Zn2Pb3, AS1565 C92410A.
